In July 2017, 20-year-old British Page 3 model Chloe Ayling travelled to Milan after London lawyer and part-time DJ Phil Green arranged what was presented as a photo-shoot. The booking had originated with Łukasz Herba, a Polish computer programmer from Oldbury who used the alias “Andre Lazio.” The supposed studio was not a functioning studio: according to evidence heard in court, Ayling was injected with ketamine, handcuffed, forced into a holdall, and transported in the boot of a car to a house in Viù near Turin. Herba then allegedly manipulated her with a second identity, “MD,” while constructing a ransom narrative supposedly issued by the “Black Death Group.” An email demanded €300,000 and threatened that Ayling would be auctioned as a sex slave on the dark web on 16 July. After Ayling failed to return to Britain, her mother alerted Green, who contacted the British consulate in Milan. Police initially found some of Ayling’s clothing at the alleged studio but little else; six days after the abduction, Ayling and Herba appeared together at the consulate, where CCTV footage of them in public intensified suspicion.
