At the end of 2019, during Art Basel Miami Beach, Desigual presented its spring-summer 2020 collection through a deliberately provocative hybrid of fashion show and performance art directed by Spanish artist Carlota Guerrero. The production was built around the kiss: personalities from fashion, art, film, and music performed choreographed movements before couples and trios kissed in front of the audience while wearing Desigual garments. The spectacle then escalated beyond conventional runway presentation, as participants subsequently appeared in nothing at all. Rather than treating clothing as a simple commercial display, the event turned intimacy, bodies, and staged nudity into part of the brand’s theatrical language. Its significance lies less in occult imagery than in the fashion industry’s increasingly blurred line between collection launch, art-world provocation, and promotional performance, with Desigual using the high-visibility Art Basel setting to make physical spectacle inseparable from the clothes.
